Weber 72501 Replacement Charcoal Grates Review

The grid for my smokey Joe has withstood the test of time, many summers in the humid south, and even occasional abuse from my four children who've gotten it out and used it to play "jail" and other weird kid games. It has not bent, rusted or corroded, and will probably outlast me! I've had cheap grills in the past with substandard workmanship, and they are now at the dump. My Weber grill and all its well made components is the only grill I think I'll ever need.

Ad said the grates were 18". You need to go into the item description to find out the real size. I just looked at the primary ad and purchased the grates. When the grates arrived and were measured they were 12.5". Company would not pay to return them, or refund any shipping charges. Actually, the grates were for an 18" barbecue and not 18" themselves. Company was willing to take them back, but it would have cost me almost .00 in shipping charges and nothing to show for it.

This charcoal starter is more useful and faster than just brute force lighting up charcoals on the grill. The one downside is that the first time that I used it, the internal coating/ paint cracked and has fallen off.

Hate to be negative, it's high quality, but some moisture is getting through mine. After a rain, it's like there's dew on the lid. Probably some seeping through the stitch holes at the top. It's probably not worth worrying about, but maybe I'll put another cover under this cover. I've never had a Weber have a problem with the wind around here, they stay put with this cover on too. Best part is how the cover keeps the rain out of the ash catcher, so the ashes don't turn into a brick. I've started using those ashes to put out the fire. Make sure the vents are completely closed, remove the charcoal grate, the charcoal falls to the bottom of the kettle, cover the fallen charcoal with ashes, cover the whole thing with a spare ash catcher (upside down), put in the cooking grate(s), place the charcoal grate on the cooking grate(s), put on the lid, wait a couple hours, put on the cover. Next time, use the one-touch to sift out old charcoal for reuse.

My Weber grill came with this cover and a brace in the back of the grill that nicely holds the lid. The Weber cover does not fit this grill unless I disassemble the brace in the back - we are talking screws and bolts. With stretching and effort you can get the cover over half of the grill but that's it. It seems a cover should fit the grill without disassembly. This cover also shows cracking and bubbling on the inner layer of material. No, I didn't try to put it on while the grill was hot. I am looking for a replacement.
